The Grand Canyon is considered by many people to be the single most impressive natural formation on earth. Nearly everyone has seen pictures of it, but there is no image that can do justice to it and actually convey the scope of the canyon compared to if you are standing on the edge of it and looking down. The Grand Canyon does have better viewing points in some places than in others, and when people are booking their tours or planning their trips, many will not take this into consideration. This is especially obvious when you realize that the majority of the scenic photos that you have seen of the canyon were taken from the South Rim, and many who embark on their trip using the starting point of Las Vegas do not end up there. Instead, they see the marketing materials that are put forth by the Grand Canyon Skywalk, which is actually located on the South Rim, and expect to see the same types of landscapes that they have seen in photos. Unfortunately, the West Rim is not quite as lush and beautiful as the South Rim, and because the attraction is marketed as being only 2.5 hours drive from Las Vegas people believe that they are actually going to the most scenic part of the canyon when they are not. The Skywalk is certainly impressive and the entire Grand Canyon is a wonder to behold, but if you truly want to see the most beautiful and scenic areas of the canyon you need to take a tour of the South Rim, which is actually 4.5 hours away.
