When many people begin researching their vacation trip to Las Vegas, they start seeing advertisements to visit the Grand Canyon while they are here. The tours are generally sold as one-day trips that will transport you from Las Vegas to the scenic Grand Canyon and back again in the same day. This duration of trip seems perfect for people who have limited time, and would like to take a short break from their Las Vegas vacation to visit one of the most iconic and breathtaking areas in the world. Some who take these trips leave feeling disappointed, however, because the Grand Canyon they see does not look like the one they see in the pictures. They also notice that all of the activities that they have heard are available ranging from hiking beautiful trails to helicopter rides and rafting excursions, donkey rides and camping are not available….they do not understand why the experience was so different than they have read or seen videos about. The answer is that they are at the wrong place.
There are two very different view points at the Grand Canyon, the South Rim and the West Rim. The West Rim is more desert like, and barren than the South Rim, and generally has little to offer as far as vegetation or animal life. The view is far more brown, and although it is obviously the Grand Canyon, it is simply not as lush and beautiful as the South Rim. The West Rim was developed as a tourist attraction to lure visitors from Las Vegas several years ago. A multi-million dollar installation of the Grand Canyon Skywalk drilled a glass walkway into the side of the canyon, creating a view to the canyon floor that can not be replicated. The only issue is that this is pretty much the only thing to do there as opposed to the South Rim which has traditionally been the view point, and as a result has developed all of the activities that you would expect from the most popular national park in the country. The experience of the two areas is quite different, and the South Rim is more known for it’s ability to provide a more immersive experience where visitors explore the area than the West Rim which is more designed for tourists to look at and take pictures of before driving home. The West Rim was chosen because it is only a 2.5 hour drive from Las Vegas, and would be able to lure people who are sightseeing and wanted to take a quick break. The South Rim is 4.5 hours drive away, and as a result will get less traffic coming from Las Vegas if they only have one-day to spend.
Most tours of the South Rim come as part of a multi-park tour that will also visit Zion and Bryce, moving on to the Grand Canyon eventually. This gives the tour group the ability to minimize driving time by visiting the closest parks then moving on to the next. The call for a one-day tour of the Grand Canyon that will visit the South Rim and provide the experience that people are looking for has been strong, and as a result we have launched a private tour that does just that. Because we have limited time to explore, the activities that we do will be the judgment of the group, instead of a package, but we will provide you with a tour of the greatest canyon in the world and give you the view you have seen in pictures.
